DESIGN PIECE OF THE WEEK N.04

The aluminium Chair EA 117 by Charles and Ray Eames is from the year 1958.

The chair is one of the great furniture designs of the twentieth century located in our meetingrooms L01 and E03.

Charles Eames, born in 1907 in St. Louis, Missouri, studied architecture at Washington University in St. Louis and worked with partners as an architect of homes and churches. Ray Eames, born in 1912 as Bernice Alexandra Kaiser in Sacramento, California, studied painting at Bennett College in Millbrook, New York.

In 1957, Vitra began producing Charles and Ray Eames‘ designs for Europe and the Middle East under license from Herman Miller. The encounter with the Eames was of fundamental importance to Vitra.
It was the beginning of the company as a furniture manufacturer.
